RF & NIR Skin Tightening Treatments in Southend-on-Sea, Essex at JR Medical
What is skin tightening?
Skin tightening is a non-invasive radiofrequency and/or near-infrared (NIR) treatment to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles and tighten loose/sagging skin.
Why choose skin tightening treatments?
With the increasing interest in anti-ageing products and services, the demand for less invasive treatments has also increased. Skin tightening is an appropriate treatment for the face/body because the ageing process sees a reduction in the amount of fat, particularly on the cheeks. Instead of plumping out the tissues (the outcome of filler treatments). Skin tightening simply aims to tighten up the sagging skin in areas such as the nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and jowls.
Why choose RF or NIR skin tightening?
Radiofrequency skin tightening uses energy to stimulate collagen and elastin production, but the energy being used is electrical rather than light-based. Once the RF energy penetrates the deeper dermal layer, it causes the skin to thicken, which decreases the depth of the wrinkles on the skin and leaves it looking and feeling firmer and improving the appearance of fine lines and cellulite.
NIR skin tightening uses infrared light energy to penetrate the tissue under the skin's surface, leaving the top layer of skin unaffected. NIR or Near Infrared is a laser that uses a high-power light source, within the near-infrared spectrum, to achieve safe and effective heating of the sub-dermal layers of skin. This stimulates the growth of collagen, tightening loose skin and leaving a healthy glow.
Who is the best candidate for skin tightening treatment?
The best candidate for skin tightening is someone who is starting to lose elasticity in their skin and is showing early signs of sagging and wrinkles.
For safety reasons, you may not be able to have skin tightening treatment if you have/are:
- Active inflammation and/or infection in the treatment area
- Current or history of cancer
- A degenerative neurologic disease or any other disease around the treatment area that’s triggered by heat (e.g. herpes)
- An Internal defibrillator/pacemaker
- Metal implants (excluding dental) in the treatment area
- Uncontrolled thyroid gland disorder
- Varicose veins

- Silicone implants and/or injections in the area
How does skin tightening work?
Skin tightening works by using radiofrequency safely and comfortably heating the dermal layer of the skin. This triggers the skin to produce collagen and elastin, giving an instant appearance of tighter smoother, and younger-looking skin.
Are RF skin tightening & NIR skin tightening treatments painful?
Skin tightening is not painful. It is a comfortable treatment that some people describe as similar to a hot stone massage. A gel is applied to the skin and then the Radio Frequency handpiece is applied and massaged around the skin. You will feel the warmth and the Doctor will check that this is at a comfortable level for you.
How long does skin tightening treatment take?
Each session of skin tightening lasts 20-40 minutes depending on the area being treated.
When will I see the results?
You should see results from your first skin tightening treatment, results vary from person to person. This is a progressive treatment, so you will see even better results after each treatment. After the completion of your course, you can continue to see results for up to 3/4 months. We recommend you maintain this result by having a Skin Tightening treatment every 3/4 months after.
Are there any side effects to skin tightening treatment?
The treatment area may look a little red/flushed and bed warm to the touch, but this will go away in 1-2 hours You can return to your daily schedule immediately after your treatment, and apply makeup if desired.
