Cosmetic Facial Acupuncture in Southend-on-Sea, Essex at JR Medical
What is facial acupuncture?
Facial acupuncture is a cosmetic treatment that is an extension of traditional acupuncture. Facial acupuncture has been growing in popularity in recent years as a non-invasive facial revitalisation treatment, largely thanks to the glowing endorsements from A-list celebrities who swear by the procedure. The treatment is also known as cosmetic acupuncture, acupuncture facelift and Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture (FRA).
For those who are looking for a more natural alternative to Botox or dermal fillers, facial acupuncture is an ancient art form of medicine with a long historical track record of rejuvenating the face to maintain a more youthful appearance. Originating from traditional Chinese medicine over 2000 years ago, acupuncture uses tiny needles which are painlessly inserted at pressure points, releasing endorphins and energy, stimulating cell regrowth and improving blood flow in the face. Facial acupuncture is an effective way to encourage the natural production of collagen, which is the protein that causes the skin to look youthful.
What happens during a facial acupuncture treatment?
The acupuncturist will insert a number of tiny and painless needles into the skin. As the acupuncture needles puncture the skin, they create wounds called positive microtraumas. Your body then begins to repair the wounds, producing collagen which improves skin elasticity and minimises fine lines and wrinkles.
The needles are so fine that you'll only feel a slight "tingling" sensation, or a dull ache, as the needles are inserted into your skin and you should not experience any significant pain.
How many facial acupuncture treatments will I need?
Unlike dermal fillers or anti-wrinkle injections, facial acupuncture isn’t a “quick fix”, so we recommend multiple ongoing sessions to maximise the cosmetic anti-wrinkle benefits of the procedure and to maintain the appearance.
Are there any side effects to facial acupuncture?
Generally, as a safe treatment, the most common side effect of cosmetic acupuncture is bruising or bleeding. Although this doesn’t happen in every case, any bruising will usually clear up within a week.
If you suffer from a bleeding disorder or are taking anti-coagulants then you should consult with your GP before booking any type of acupuncture treatment.
At JR Medical, you can expect a registered doctor and member of the British Society of Acupuncturists to perform the facial acupuncture treatment, ensuring fantastic results and a brighter, smoother complexion. Not forgetting the sense of relaxation that will make you feel like you spent the day at a spa!
